A Guide To Cruise Ship Travel

by Adriana Noton on March 15, 2010

Going on a cruise is a great way to spend a vacation. The sun, activities, food, and entertainment make cruise ship travel a great vacation choice for couples and families. There are many types of cruises for every type of traveler such as: Family Cruises, Singles Cruises, Caribbean Cruises, Alaskan Cruises, Wedding Cruises, Themed Cruises, Mediterranean Cruises, and much more. Before you book your next cruise, you should be aware of important cruise travel considerations so that you ensure your cruise is fun and memorable. Below is a helpful guide to cruise ship travel:

1. The best time to take a cruise depends on the cruise travel destinations. For instance, the summer months are the best time to take an Alaskan Cruise and European Cruise. The winter months are more appropriate for the Caribbean. If you want a great deal, try traveling during the off season which is spring and fall. For instance, November in the Caribbean is the off-season and a great time to get a cheap deal. You can consult with your local travel agent about any last minute sell-offs being offered during the off-season.

2. If you are looking to get a great deal on a cruise, book a vacation during the ’shoulder season.’ This is the period right between the destination’s low and high seasons. For instance, the cheapest time to go on an Alaskan cruise is May. As well, November/December is a great time to for a Caribbean Cruise. October and April is a good time for a Mediterranean cruise. You can get some great bargains when booking for the ’shoulder season.’

3. The internet is a great resource for finding and booking a cheap cruise. It is also a handy comparison shopping tool that will help ensure that you are getting the best deal. You can take advantage of last minute deals, special promotions, and special off-season prices. As well, you can often get a special discounted cruise vacation package.

4. Because there are only a few cruise ports, you may have to get a cheap flight to the cruise port. You can often get a combo “fly-cruise” package. It is important to compare prices to see if you can get a better deal by purchasing the ticket independently. The “fly-cruise” price will usually include transfers between the ship and the airport, which can increase the price. There are a number of cheap airline websites where you can find a great deal. You may want to book your flights online (or offline) a day before departure in case there are flight delays.

It can be difficult planning a vacation cruise, especially if it is your first time. It is important to know where you want to go and the type of cruise you want to take before you book. Fortunately, there are many ways to book your dream cruise while getting a great price. It just takes a little knowledge and research, and before you know it, you will be on the open water having the time of your life.

Advice For The Perfect Babymoon Vacation

by Adriana Noton on March 15, 2010

Although having baby is an exciting and emotional time in a couple’s life, it also means that there will be some major life changes. For instance, you and your partner will no longer be living as a couple that has the freedom to get up and go at a moments notice. Basically, you will be responsible for a precious new life. Before baby makes three, couples will often take one last vacation to relax and enjoy the last moments alone. When you are planning the perfect babymoon vacation, there are a number of things you can do to make your time together relaxing, enjoyable and memorable.

1. There is a certain point in the pregnancy when a woman should not travel due to the risk of premature labor. It is recommended that a pregnant woman not fly before 12 weeks. The best time for an expectant mother to travel is during the second trimester, weeks 14 to 27. During this period, morning sickness should have subsided. While on the plane, make sure you stretch your legs every hour to prevent blood clots. As well, make sure you get a comfortable seat with plenty of leg room.

2. When planning where to travel when pregnant, it is important to choose a flight destination where you will be comfortable. Traveling to a destination that is known for extreme heat may not be a good choice as the heat can cause dehydration and nausea. The Caribbean and Florida are popular winter destinations. Canada is a great place to travel as the climate is very temperate. You will also want to travel to places that have quality healthy food with comfortable hotels. As well, you should familiarize yourself with the location of the local hospitals and physician clinics.

3. Vacationing while pregnant means you have to choose the appropriate clothing. Clothing should be loose fitting and the fabric soft on the skin. Elastic waistlines are a good choice. You should also make sure your clothing is appropriate for the climate. You do not want to be too cold or so hot that you are constantly perspiring.

4. While at your destination, you have to make sure you are eating and drinking healthy. You should consider drinking only bottled water. As well, eat at fine restaurants that have an excellent rating. Eat foods that are healthy for you and the baby. You can even bring your own healthy snacks.

5. Make sure you have had a doctor’s health check up before you leave. If you are staying at a sunny destination, wear lots of sunscreen. Bring your vitamins, medicine, and any medical documentation. As well, make sure you get plenty of rest before and during the vacation.

Having a baby means life as a couple will soon be changing to baby makes three. The babymoon vacation is a great time to enjoy the last moments of peace and quiet. When you make the proper travel preparations take your pregnancy into consideration and you will have a fun, healthy, diaper-free unforgettable vacation.

Embassies and Consulates – Where To Turn For Help When Traveling Outside Of Canada

by Adriana Noton on February 25, 2010

Every year, millions of Canadians travel outside the country for business and personal activities. Most trips result in a memorable travel experience; however, there are times when unexpected troubling events occur. When an alarming incident does occur in another country, it can often be a stressful and frightening time. Fortunately, there are places Canadians can turn to for help.

When Canadians plan to travel out of the country, they are able to get assistance in more than 150 countries at more than 260 offices. There are Consular offices that offer services 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. The Consular staff is trained to provide Canadian citizens with helpful aid for an extensive range of travel issues. Canadians traveling outside of Canada can get in touch with the closest Canadian Government office or call the DFAIT’s Operations Centre. The DFAIT not only provides consular services, but it also services other government departments and agencies which includes the Public Health Agency of Canada, Canada Border Services Agency, Passport Canada, Citizenship and Immigration Canada, and the Department of National Defence.

If you plan to travel abroad, it is important to find out the location of Government of Canada offices in the countries you plan to visit and make sure you keep the contact information with you when traveling. Located on the Consular Affairs website, the Global Issues and Country Travel Reports section has the most current information on the safety and security conditions, health issues, and entry and visa requirements for over 200 travel destinations. Before your flights, it is important to provide your family or friends with a travel schedule and your contact details while traveling, as well as the emergency number for Foreign Affairs and International Trade Canada ((613) 996-8885 outside Canada; 1 800 267-6788 or (613) 944-6788 in Canada).

Consular officials can help Canadians with such issues as evacuation from a war zone, civil unrest, or a natural disaster. They will also give travelers a list of hospitals and local doctors in the event of a medical emergency, assist with legal issues that includes providing a list of local lawyers and local laws, provide assistance for victims of a crime such as a mugging, and help locate abducted children and missing persons. It is recommended that travelers purchase travel insurance to make sure they are protected in an emergency such as a medical emergency. Consular officials will also contact next of kin, replace expired, stolen, or lost passports, notarize documents, and provide a limited translation service. Some of these services will require a service fee. If you find yourself in a difficult situation in a place where the Canadian Government does not have an office, you should look for another country’s office such as the United States, Australia, or Britain. To make sure you are protected, you should register with a Canadian Government office before departure.

Because you do not always know what to expect when you travel to another country, it is important that you know what to do in case of an emergency. Being equipped with the right information will make any emergency much less stressful and easier to resolve.

However, preparing for the trip can be very stressful; as you want to make sure that you have everything in order before you embark on your trip. Make sure you check with the Country Travel Reports to find out about health concerns, safety and security conditions, and entry requirements for your destination.

Passengers traveling abroad, including the United States, must have a valid passport

Flight Tickets: Before you head out to the airport, make sure you have confirmed your flight 24 to 72 hours prior to departure. This way you will find out if there have been any changes such as a cancellation or delay.

Visas: Check with the Consular Affairs website for the countries that require a visa. You can also check with a travel agent about the visa requirements for the country you are planning to visit. Make copies of all your essential documents and leave them in a safe place while you are on your trip.

Insurance: Check to see if you are covered by your home, credit card, or auto club insurance. If you are not covered or do not have adequate coverage, you should considered purchasing travel insurance.

Cash: It is important to keep a minimum amount of currency that you need to avoid any problems such as losing your money or having it stolen. Check to see if the country you are traveling to accepts travelers’ checks.

Airport Security and Packing: When packing, you have to know what you can and cannot bring on a flight. Airfare Fine Print – What You Need To Know Before You Buy

by Adriana Noton on February 20, 2010

When most people purchase an airline ticket, they do not bother to take the time to read the fine print. The details tend to be long and confusing, which makes reading it an unpleasant task. Airlines would rather have their travelers avoid looking into the details of airfare fine print because they contain all sorts of restrictions to help the airlines capitalize on additional revenue. When considering reading airfare fine print, it is important for consumers to ask themselves: Would I buy a car without knowing about the terms and conditions? So why wouldn’t you want to know about the airfare terms and conditions? Just like any other product or service such as purchasing a car, it is essential that travelers read the fine print to ensure that they understand and comply with the specific requirements for that fare as defined by the airline. Below are a few things you should know before you book your next flight.

Ticket Change and Refund Policies: Most cheap airline tickets are non-refundable. However, for a fee, you can usually exchange the tickets for another flight time. The cost to change a flight will vary and re-routing is usually not permitted.

Flight Dates: Airlines will normally have certain conditions for a traveler to take advantage of a deal on their tickets. Some airline deals state that flights have to be booked a certain number of days prior to travel. It is important to know the specific days in advance of the flight so you do not miss out on a great travel deal. Airlines will also have designated days of the week where they offer cheaper flights. There are often conditions that require a traveler to stay a certain number of days at the destination to receive a special deal. As well, there are certain times of the year when cheaper travel deals are not available (blackout dates) such as during a peak flight season like Christmas.

Frequent-Flyer Travel Restrictions: Most people take advantage of frequent-flyer miles and points to get a free or greatly discounted flight. It is important to be aware that there are certain times of the year when people cannot use their awards such as during peak flight season. However, in many airline reward programs, you can get a seat on almost any flight if you double your air miles when you book your flight during a black out time.

One-Way and Round-trip Tickets: Airlines often emphasize the special one-way price for an airfare, however, in some instances the price is only offered when buying a round-trip ticket. As well, whether it is a one-way or round trip ticket, it is important to read over the terms and conditions such as the minimum/maximum stay, how long prior to the flight that one has to purchase the ticket and the hidden costs included in the ticket such as insurance, taxes, security charge…etc.

Airlines will usually reveal some regulations and conditions at the time of booking, but they do not usually cover them all and what they tell you is usually a summary. Before you begin your travel preparations, it is important to read the fine print to make certain that you are able to meet the terms of the airline’s flight requirements.

Traffic Speeding Cameras On The Rise

by Martin Pierce on January 3, 2010

Traffic cameras are popping up all over the place. To be frank, I can easily deal with the red light traffic cameras despite the fact that I realize that their main purpose is to generate revenue. Running red lights is dangerous business and I don’t do it. However, when a car is on my tail, I certainly have pushed the limit with yellow lights.

However, the reach of these cameras has been extended to city streets and highways. In fact, I was in an unfamiliar in Washington, D.C. one night last fall. Being in an unfamiliar area, I did not take the time to notice the actual speed limit, which was 25 mph by the way. I was going downhill and my car picked up some speed to reach 35 miles per hour. A sensed a brief flash in background but thought nothing of it at the time. However, I was reminded of the flash a couple weeks later when I received a $150 ticket in the mail for going 10 miles over the speed limit.

Big Brother is everywhere. In the not too distant future, I project that almost every city street and highway will have these cameras. At least you get a warning on I-95 in Maryland. Almost everyone speeds a little on the interstate. I guess the cameras will keep this in check. However, since that is not their real purpose I doubt it. Again, their real purpose is to generate revenue. If they work too well, the irony is that they won’t be cost effective.

If traffic cameras are not in your community, they definitely will arrive in the not too distant future. Private companies are working hard to ensure this based on false safety claims. These cameras are easy money for the local districts and private companies.

If you don’t speed, then you have nothing to worry about with these traffic cameras. However, in this fast-paced, sometimes speeding is par for the course. In fact, almost every driver pushes the speed limit from time to time. Even if you manage to stick to the speed limit most of time, you are still subject to receiving a ticket for picking up speed while driving downhill. Also, sometimes you can be almost forced into speeding by the flow of the traffic. Traffic cameras are great for local districts because they can give out tickets with the speed of a flash. Also, the ticket is assigned to the car and not the driver. Should this be unconstitutional?

Big Brother is watching and lurking to take your hard earned money out of your pocket; anywhere from $100 to $400. Given the rapid rise of traffic cameras, the probability that you will receive a ticket from on of these devices is nearly inevitable. There are a number of ways that you can protect yourself against these cameras. The best protection by far, according to my research, is a spray that last the life of your license plate. This spray make your car virtually invisible to traffic cameras.

Want to find out more about avoiding traffic tickets, then visit my site on how to choose the best anti-red light camera product for your needs.
