The Critical Nature With Respect To Kid Swimming Pool Safety Measures

by Taylor Lewis on March 15, 2010

It is basic common sense that we should never leave children near a swimming pool unattended. Water attracts children and they can fall in in a second. If you are at a pool and have to leave, even just for a minute, take your kids with you.

Take a tip from public pools and have various pieces of life saving equipment at hand. These should be things like life belts and shepherd’s hooks. These can save the lives of both a child and a non swimmer who has got into difficulty.

It’s also a good idea to have a phone at the poolside, so of there is an emergency you can raise help quickly. Sometimes an emergency situation can be determined within a matter of seconds or minutes, and a phone call may serve as the difference.

I hope you already have a fence erected around your pool area. If you haven’t, get one built asap. This will keep any kids away from the pool when it is unattended.

This fence can be any design but must be at least 6 feet tall and have a padlock on the gate. Keep the key with you at all times so you know nobody can sneak in.

Find a class in your area that teaches you how to do CPR and get yourself along. You will be safe in the knowledge that should a situation arise, you will know what to do.

Although we always hear about the tragedies that are kids drowning in pools, adults do too. If you have a pool being used be there at all time and act as a lifeguard. You would never forgive yourself if someone lost their life in your pool because you weren’t there to save them.

A private pool is great fun, but safety must come first. When you have finished playing around the pool always ensure that the last thing you do is lock the gate.

Caribbean Cruises

by Owen Jones on March 12, 2010

People work harder these days than ever before. If not physically harder then longer hours and we are entitled to a break from that once in a while. The majority of us go on holiday and we look forward to it months in advance and we plan for it even further ahead. Where do you like to go or what do you like to do? I personally prefer to go on a cruise and a Caribbean cruise is a good choice.

People think a cruise, specially a Caribbean cruise as being expensive, and cruise operators want to uphold that elite image, but I see the cruise as being an up-market all inclusive holiday. Probably, it is the original all inclusive holiday, because once you walk up and off that gang plank, everything aside from drinks is free. Everything and everything is first class hotel style too! We are not talking pizza and chips here, but five or six course meals and five or six times a day.

It is common knowledge, that if you go on a cruise you can expect to gain a pound or two a week (I gained five pounds on my last cruise), unless you do some exercise. What exercise? Cruise liners have swimming pools and gymnasiums! Not only one but several. Some even set aside a deck for running at certain times of the day. There really is no excuse for not exercising on a Caribbean cruise.

Caribbean cruise liners provide more sports facilities than just gymnastics too. In fact, except for horse riding, I think that most sports are catered for. Basketball, volleyball, swimming, clay pigeon shooting, fishing, bird watching … You name it. Caribbean cruise liners also have Internet connections, games machines and full office amenities. During the evenings there are first class shows, often two a night, films in a cinema and a casino.

If you have never been on a Caribbean cruise, it is difficult to explain the amount of luxury that is provided. It is more than a first class hotel. In a first class hotel, you pay first class prices for everything too, but on a Caribbean cruise liner, everything but drinks is free and even drinks are cheap because they are duty-free. The cruise liner will have a shop too where everything it sells is duty free!

Some Caribbean cruises are themed and it is worth noting this fact. Also some times of the year, especially early February are foreseeable. I once naively went on a Caribbean cruise for a fortnight which spanned St Valentine’s day. I was a single man then and the other 1200 were amorous couples. There was only one single woman on the cruise and there was no rapport between us. I did not not enjoy that Caribbean cruise, because people took we under their wing, but it made me think about the time of year when I next booked up.

Caribbean cruises, especially the better ones, will fill up quickly, so this is one holiday that you really ought to book well in advance. A year in advance is not too early. I like to book my Caribbean cruise a year in advance, but put my name down for any last minute cancellations, in case I can pick up a bargain.

Luxury Sea Cruises

by Owen Jones on February 26, 2010

Vacationing on a cruise liner is rightly considered to be elite and luxurious. It is certainly the best kind of vacation that I have ever had. The luxury far surpasses staying in a five star hotel. On the other hand, it is like an elite all inclusive holiday, because once on board, all the entertainment and all your meals are free. Alcoholic drinks must be paid for, but then they are duty free.

If you have never been on a cruise before you really must try it. I would not recommend it as a family vacation, but I have seen families on cruises. Cruising might suit a family with older children or you might find a cruise which is designed with children in mind. However, in my experience, the typical cruiser is over 50 and married.

I know that they do 18-30 cruises and all kinds of themed cruises, but if you just go on a normal cruise, most of your fellow passengers will be older. Many of them are commemorating something too – retirement, Golden Wedding Anniversary, 70th birthday, that sort of thing. These people want a peaceful time and do not really want children running around and jumping in and out of the pool. Dinner can be late and the evening’s entertainment is not child orientated either. If you want to take children, look for a specialty cruise.

A cruise is relaxing and all about pampering. Luxury and pampering and world class food. I put on five pounds on a two week cruise and friends said that was abnormally little! I will tell you about the food on my last cruise.

Breakfast lasted from 7 AM to 10 AM and there was a buffet with food from all around the world: fruit, porridge, toast, bacon and eggs, ham, cornflakes and all the variations, sausages, rice, Chinese food, prawns, fish and more. Elevenses started at 11 AM and had tea, coffee, cakes and biscuits, help yourself.

Lunch was a two hour affair commencing at 1PM consisting of four courses. There was a choice of set plans, but if you wanted to mix and match you could – I think the plans were only to make it easier for the elderly to make up their minds. With 1,200 people to give food to in two sittings, the waiters try to speed selection up in very subtle ways, but never outwardly. High tea was from 4 to 4:30PM: tea, coffee, cakes, biscuits and sandwiches.

Dinner was at 6:30PM and was a five course meal in the same vein as lunch and at midnight there was a barbecue on deck until 2AM. Everything that was presented was first class and there was no constraint at all on how much you could eat.

Entertainment was after dinner and there were two shows to match the two dinner sittings, but you could sit there for both shows if you liked. There was a different show every night varying from solo artistes to bands. There were theater plays and musical shows, it was very majestic. There was also a piano bar playing jazz and a disco every night

I would recommend a cruise to anyone, but it is a good idea to check what sort of cruise you are booking as some are themed and if you do not like the cruise’s theme, you may not get the full enjoyment out of it.

Women’s Swim Shorts Are Introduced

by Alexander Stone on January 21, 2010

Shorts as we know are a one piece garment used to cover part of the legs and the pelvic area. It is held up either by tying a string or elastic. The length can vary according to the need. Shorts can be worn as an outer or inner garment. The name shorts were given because it is a shorter version of long pants.

The meaning of shorts varies according to which country your in. In England if you were to say shorts it could mean under garments so they would specifically say short trousers to describe shorts. In America short pants are can also mean shorts although rarely used. Then there are of course boxer shorts, which are strictly undergarments. And again in England if you were simply say shorts, it would be understood as athletic or sports shorts and so on.

In the early years of shorts, they were only used by boys who hadn’t reached puberty. Once they were well into their teens they switched to trousers, at least this was the case in Europe and the U.S. the knee pants worn in America in the early part of the 20th century were the ancestors of the shorts. And of course women strictly did not wear shorts.

Wearing shorts is so common nowadays it’s easy to forget that it is a relatively modern idea. In fact if you had to put a date on it, it was not until World War 2 that it became acceptable for adult men. Soldiers in the war were being posted in tropical countries and since then there has been a slow but sure acceptance of shorts. But even nowadays shorts are still seen as clothing for children in some cultures.

Nowadays shorts in America and Europe are worn by just about everybody and both genders. Women in the U.S started first wearing shorts as a swimming accessory. Those shorts were simply called women’s swimming shorts. Today they are back in vogue for their comfort and versatility. There are types that can be worn for either swimming or casual wear.

Beginners Guide To Scuba Diving Gear

by Brett Camron on January 20, 2010

When it comes to scuba diving the most important thing is the training that you have, the next most important thing to that is the gear that you will need to have. Everything that I will cover here will be essential if you plan on making some deep dives.

Scuba diving masks let you see under the depths of the ocean water, because the deeper you go the darker it gets, and the higher pressure it gets. So when you are shopping for a scuba diving mask do not try and go the easy route and buy the cheapest one that you can find.

Bouyancy compensators air in letting the diver going up, down, or just staying neutral in the water during a dive. They also provide the tank attachment, along with diving gauges and oxygen regulators. For divers they are referred to as a BC, and they are absolutely essential when it comes to diving.

You will also need to invest in a wetsuit if you plan on scuba diving. Wets suits will provide you with warm protection from cold waters, which will come in handy when diving in deep waters. When fitting for a wet suit you must make sure that it fits on you snug for it to work like it is supposed to.

Unless you can hold your breath for a very long time a diver will need a scuba diving tank. Scuba diving tanks supply the oxygen to the regulator hose so that you can breathe under water. You can rent them from dive shops if you are certified or if you have the money you can purchase your own and get it refilled with oxygen at dive shops.

Swim fins, also known as flippers will also be needed for any diver. One cannot expect good thrust in the water with their feet alone, this is why the long runner swim fins are needed to aid the diver to move through the water efficiently.

A lot of divers wear special made watches, also know as dive computers when diving down deep. They will tell you how far down you are, water temperature, decompression and much more. Some of them can also be made to work with your gauges so that you know how much oxygen you have left in the scuba tank.

There are many other types of scuba diving gear that you can also have like diving gloves, cameras, ropes, weight belts, dive flags, knives, bags, custom gauges and so much more. The number one thing about diving is safety, it is highly recommended that you take some diving training courses and become certified before attempting a dive.

George Carlmon has been scuba diving his entirelife. He also has found a great website to purchase some cheap scuba diving gear. They have everything you need from swim fins to cheap diving masks

Commercial Diving Courses

by Owen Jones on January 15, 2010

Professional deep sea diving or commercial diving is a profession that is not for all people. In this profession, you must be in first-class physical condition and you also need to have a quick mind. Being a commercial diver is not only about knowing how to weld pipes undersea and being able to handle explosives, there are a lot of specialty studies that you can focus on in commercial diving.

These days, there are specialist schools for commercial diving. There, you will get the chance to become a qualified commercial diver as well as take specialty courses that appeal to you the most.

Basically, most commercial divers take welding courses. If you follow the specialist underwater welding course, you will learn the skills necessary to make high quality fillet welds. You will also be introduced to theories concerning the welding process and safe working practice while welding undersea.

In this course, each topic will be covered with lectures and real examinations where you will be taken undersea for a simulated welding situation.Normally, you will learn nine different subjects on this course.

The first will cover safe undersea welding procedures; the second, welding plant and equipment; the third, techniques; the fourth, the preparation of the weld; the fifth, welding terminology and electrodes; the sixth, basic weldability and common weld defects; the seventh, how to monitor and control welding operations; the eighth, quality assurance and control and the ninth is joining steel plates using the three regular welding techniques.

Taking an underwater welding course can provide you with a great deal of employment opportunities in a commercial diving career. By becoming a certified undersea welder, you will be in demand by the shipping, construction and oil and gas industries.

Air mixed gas commercial diving is also a specialist course in the commercial diving industry. On this one, you will be taught about the different gas mixes that divers breathe. Regular air, nitrox, trimix, whatever, you will be taught how to mix them all.

A pressure tolerance test is also integrated in this particular course. You will also learn about the effects of individual gases on the body when diving. For instance, you will be taught about nitrogen and its hallucinogenic effects on the brain when inhaled under pressure, and you will also be taught about oxygen toxicity and why helium is a preferred gas for breathing when diving in very deep waters.

You will also be taught about decompression and dive medicines as well as hyperbaric medication. Safety planning is another critical part of the course as well as the commercial applications of scuba.

Undersea construction is also covered under this course as well as inland diving and equipment maintenance, especially that of the gas systems.

The diver medic specialist is another specialized course in commercial diving. After passing it, you will become a dive medical technician who will be responsible for making safer and better prepared dives.

You will be taught about the effects of prolonged diving on the body and also about the different ailments that divers can experience, such as decompression sickness and extreme fatigue. You will also be taught how to care for divers who have experienced accidents during dives as well as hyperbaric medicine and treatment.

The above are just some of the specialty courses that you can follow in commercial diving.

As you can tell, there are a lot of career opportunities in the world of deep sea diving. By choosing the specialty course you want to learn about, you can be sure that you will have an enjoyable and much brighter future in the world of commercial diving.

Properly Using Pool Chlorine

by Michelle Rogriguez on December 22, 2009

If you have a home swimming pool, there are a couple of steps that you will need to follow to keep the water safe and clean. One of these involves your filtering system, and the other involves the chemicals used to keep your pool water sanitized, such as chlorine and bromine.

Both of these chemicals work to keep pool water sanitized, and kill bacteria and other types of contaminants. If you don’t keep bacteria and contaminants under control, your pool water can become hazardous and unhealthy.

Chlorine breaks down into various chemicals when it is added to the water in your pool, which destroys the bacteria’s cell walls, rendering them inactive. Chlorine must be added to the pool on a continual basis, according to water tests, in order to maintain a proper chlorine level in the pool.

Often bromine is selected instead of chlorine for hot tubs and spas, simply because it tends to work better in warmer temperatures. However, this is a matter of personal preference, and chlorine can also be used if desired.

It is important to always follow the label’s directions carefully when using chlorine, and never let the levels become higher than what is recommended. Chlorine can be irritating to the skin if levels are too high.

Chlorine is less expensive than bromine when used for swimming pool water sanitation. This makes it a popular choice, because of the lower cost, as it is a more economical method for keeping the water bacteria free.

You will need a kit that is designed to measure the chlorine, alkalinity and acidity levels of your pool, so that you can tell when to add more chlorine. You should always check the chlorine level in the pool on a daily basis.

You should first clean your pool using the vacuum before adding chemicals. Once the debris has been removed with the vacuum, you can use the chlorine to clean the water.

Buying a Pool Cleaner

by Judy Mott on December 22, 2009

Who knows where to start when shopping for the right swimming pool cleaner? The most popular deciding factor for many shoppers is price, though that priority will still not narrow the choices down to a handful. Prices can range up to a few thousand dollars or be as low as a few hundred. There are other things to consider, though, to make your choice.

The most important thing in pool cleaning is water purity, especially pH and chlorine levels. Most people use chemical treatments and a water testing kit to test their pool water every day.

You should regularly keep a check on the pumps and hoses, filter pressure, and the strainer basket. On a weekly basis, it is necessary to clean the pool walls and lining by using a brush or an automatic pool cleaner.

All of these duties combined might get a bit overwhelming for a pool owner. Fortunately, there are a host of swimming pool cleaners to help make at least part of the task more bearable.

It is important to know what your limits are and hire someone to take care of your pool when you cannot properly do the job. If you are not honest with yourself and your pool suffers from neglect, you could face serious health problems for swimmers and damage to your pool.

To choose a swimming pool cleaner, you must first determine what the majority of debris will be that will fall into your pool. For example, in a wooded area, expect lots of leaves, twigs and sometimes acorns to fall into your pool.

Deciding on an automatic or manual cleaner will be determined by how much work you wish to do and your budget. Automatic swimming pool cleaners cost more; manual cleaners allow for a more thorough cleaning.

Automatic swimming pool cleaners come in suction side or pressure side varieties. Robotic cleaners, which can cost more than $1,000, have the ability to be programmed and can map out and remember a cleaning grid for the pool. Whether you choose this top-of-the-line option or a more economical one, commit to keeping your water clean.

Why Smart People Use Swimming Pool Covers

by Fred Zavala on December 21, 2009

Although most homeowners have openly questioned whether they needed swimming pool covers, few have regretted the decision to purchase one. These handy protective accessories stop bugs, branches, leaves and twigs from creating more damage to your pool. The security of protection alone is enough for the investment.

The first thing to consider when purchasing a swimming pool cover is selecting the right size. Although there is much temptation to choose a standard cover that claims to fit any size pool, it is best to get a custom cover for your pool.

Fitting your pool will require that you make sure all the angles of your pool (including the steps and other areas) are under the pool cover. Since rarely are two pools in a neighborhood the same, you are wasting your time with a standard fitted cover. These allow the debris you are protecting your pool from to find its way into your pool.

Next, you will need to decide whether you want a safety cover, water bag cover or automatic cover.

The advantage of a water bag cover is the weighted bags that accompany it to keep your swimming pool cover in place during heavy winds and rains. The water bags are placed about two to three feet apart and can be placed inside the pool or on top of the cover.

Warranties will be an important consideration during your purchase. The time limit on most of them is about two years, but always read the fine print and know what the manufacturer covers.

Stitching is a strong determining factor for quality in pool covers. It should be more than 10 x 10 to meet the definition of “sturdy,” and it costs a little more than regular covers. You will not be able to prevent some winter damage to your cover. You can, however, cut down on the wind damage by placing a little bit of water atop the cover.

Swimming pool covers should be about four feet larger than the pool they intend to cover. The important thing is to make sure your pool is protected. Being preventive will save you a lot of headaches in the spring and summer when the heat returns.

The Above Ground Swimming Pool Financing Guide was established to help people learn about the various aspects of above ground swimming pool loans.
