We all heard Cubworld’s amazing song, Wise Words, on Beach Walk 632 – Island Adventure. He is the second person to qualify on Sellaband which is a social network site for emerging musicians. Born in Tonga, Cubworld has resisted his musical urges in favor of fine art for many years, but the song keeps coming back to him. www.cubworld.com
Who knew after all my disco years dancing to the tune of “in the navy” I would be a DV on a US Navy Aircraft Carrier? Shane and I spent an overnight on the USS Nimitz – a 4.5 acre steel beach. We’ve got several episodes for you, as of course we couldn’t go alone! Part One is the getting there, via a COD flight with an arrested landing. Distributed by Tubemogul.
Knowing your likes and dislikes, your preferences, is one of the ingredients for being happy IMO. Today’s show started with a thread on Twitter, where people were talking about people liking structure. True much of the time, but certainly not always! Thanks to Creative Sage who pointed that out. Even preferences for air temp vary – the tricky part is discovering one’s own preferences as it is largely a trial and error exercise. And for me, so situation-specific! Oh well, what else is life …
I love reiterating some of our recurring human experiences with the goal of going easier on ourselves. This episode is a reminder of how stressful it can sometimes be to learn new things, as in the case of my nephew Tyler who is learning to drive. Remember that the brain and quite possibly also the physical circuitry is at work learning new patterns. To realize that some old patterns may be in the process of expanding or being dismantled. And to go slower rather than faster. To repeat as …
Our car is 6.5 yrs old but has only 40000 miles (eh – living on an island!) I have way more miles in my frequent flier accounts than the odometer of the Ford Escape. Statistics can prove anything. Old Thinking: That’s bad! New Thinking: Use math to my advantage, to help me feel better, so I become untethered to what is holding me back. Not to lie or manipulate per se, but to use .5 as half full, OR half empty. Both are true. Which interpretation feels better for me for now? I personally …
Binary refers to how computers work: things basically boil down to ones and zeros. It makes for a very black and white appearance. Yet I am meeting more and more geeky guys who have an artful and spiritual side which I consider the opposite of 1-0. There are so many examples in life where drilled down deep or taken out wide, they become the opposite of themselves. You can check out the video on Byteful.com. Distributed by Tubemogul.
Freedom and happiness really influence my views on life and what I choose to let go of in order to have the freedom and the happiness. This whole thread this week actually started with someone in my yoga class complaining about dirty hand prints on the mirrors…and off my mind went to energy discrepancies, to rules that can’t be followed, to how powerful negotiation is and we can’t have negotiation if we stay stuck in a world of black and white, constructed somewhere in the past …
Rainy again today so it was a late run to the beach, as the tide was high and there was a big swell in town! Lots of people out surfing at Flat Island in the distance (wish I were there!) and it was a great segue for a blog post I read this morning from my friend Richard Noll, I am and therefore I can. I mis-remembered the quote in the episode, but heh! That is what show notes are for. And actually, I like both iterations of the thought – I find them both liberating and supportive of …
Here’s a great story. A Harvard researcher, Jill Bolte Taylor, had a stroke. It de-commissioned her left brain. As part of her recovery she stayed present in her process and observed life without an active left brain – the home to the logical and the inner critic in many ways. She found her bliss deep inside the exploration of her right brain. Hawaiian word: ʻĀkau: right Hema: left
I’ve been practicing one little switch in my brain – it is so easy to point out what is wrong, and so much more effective to point out what is right, what makes me happy, what I want more of. I think we grow up with the mistaken notion that other people are here to make us happy – but in reality, that is an individual job. The easiest way to get to that happiness, is ti understand what makes us happy and then to be willing to speak up and ask for it! Here’s my personal blog where I am …
