Magical Maui Beach Resorts

by Stephen Daniels on January 17, 2010

Beautiful, mystical Maui. So named for the Hawaiian deity who lassoed the sun and slowing its path across the sky, this island paradise is the perfect blend of civilization and Mother Nature’s beauty. Warm ocean waters playfully lure snorkelers, promising colorful reef fish. Humpback whales, yearly visitors from November to April, can be seen from the shoreline as they glide through the waves. Stretches of white sand beckon you for a midnight stroll.

Consider taking those midnight strolls back to a stately oceanfront condo. Condo rentals offer more personal space and privacy than your average hotel stay. Units come in a wide variety of sizes, from compact studios ideal for singles and couples to units with one, two, three or more bedrooms, great for families or friends traveling together. Some condos offer two or more bathrooms. Private balconies or patios are the norm. At the end of a fun-filled day of enjoying the Maui sights, kick off your slippers, mix a blender full of mai tai’s and stretch out on lounge chairs under a million stars.

Fully equipped kitchens give you the option of exploring the local grocery stores and having a quiet meal in rather than dining out. Kids are always hungry and having a refrigerator stocked with drinks and treats is big plus for families. There is also the luxury of being able to pad into the kitchen in the middle of the night for a midnight snack, still in your pajamas.

Amenities differ between condo rental properties. Most offer a swimming pool and deck area, usually with a hot tub. Some offer beach equipment rentals, a concierge desk for arranging tours and car rentals, on-site bars and/or restaurants. Luxury condos not only offer top of the line furnishings but can offer hotel like front desk and business services.

Condo rentals on your Maui vacation also offer a choice of locations. Properties in Ka’anapali Beach, on the southwestern end of the island offer easy access to the beach, golfing at the Ka’anapali golf courses, world class restaurants, nightclubs and a host of shops. The Sugar Cane Train, a hit with the kids, runs between Ka’anapali and the old whaling town of Lahaina for even more shopping, dining and sightseeing. Lahaina is also the departure point for many whale watching and snorkeling tours as well as the ferry to the island of Lanai.

Wailea and Makena, farther east on the island, were developed after Ka’anapali. This area is famous for lots of sun, beautiful beaches and of course, playing golf. Wailea Golf Club itself has three courses. Choose between a condo near the water or one overlooking palm lined fairways. Honeymooners and anniversary couples tend to enjoy this area because it is just as deluxe as Ka’anapali, but quieter and more private.

In between these two resort areas is Kihei, a laid back family friendly residential area that offers a large number of condos, many of which are moderately priced. It is known for its beaches and for having more sunny days than either Ka’anapali or Wailea. Recent development has added new shopping malls and restaurants. Oceanfront Kamala Beach Park offers a place for kids to play baseball, basketball, in line hockey and to skateboard.

Regardless of which part of Maui you choose for your home away from home, condos serve up the best of the island and allow you to relax as you should on your dream vacation.

Sullivan Properties offers affordable vacation condo rentals on the west side of the beautiful island of Maui. Check them out for help with your accommodations, concierge services for your activity planning, and car rentals. Powered by SEO 2.0 Services

Swim With Sharks In Hawaii

by Morten Elm on December 17, 2009

Aloha, Hawaii. Shark diving in Hawaii ranks among the best in the world. So if you are going to those beautiful islands, you can have a close encounter with a shark. A memory you will not forget.

The Hawaiian island chain is made up of 132 islands, with the two islands Maui and Oahu having the best places for a shark scuba dive. Hawaii is located 2400 miles from the nearest continent, which creates a unique underwater environment.

The water around Hawaii is home for about 40 different shark species. The most common are Reef Whitetip Sharks, Sandbar Sharks and Scalloped Hammerhead Shark. In rare occasions it is also possible to encounter Tigers Sharks and even Whale Sharks.

The water has a beautiful cobalt blue color and the visibility is approximately 200 feet, which is better than most other places in the world. Diving in Hawaii is like diving in Paradise.

An always popular adrenalin-pumping activity is shark cage diving. Hawaii is a great place for this kind of diving (or swimming is probably a better word for this non-scuba diver activity).

The best place to try this special kind of activity is Oahu. You are placed in a floating cage in the water. From here you and up to three other people can encounter the sharks from a very heart pumping distance.

So if you have never tried a shark cage dive, you should try it, if you are on vacation in Oahu. You cannot know when you get the chance again.

Another place to dive is Maui. The place is considered to be one of the top dive destinations in the world. The island offers a range of diving opportunities including reef dives and dives near volcanic craters.

But the most exciting shark encounter is without doubt with the amazing and huge Whale Shark. It is not something you can expect to see on every dive. But you can actually be lucky enough to see them on a snorkeling trip.

If you do not want to take the risk not to see any sharks, you can instead take a dive in the 750,000 gallon fish tanks in the Maui Ocean Center aquarium. Here you can see 20 sharks, a lot of stingrays and thousands of colorful, tropical reef fish.

So if you want to dive with sharks in an aquarium or in the ocean, Maui or Oahu is the places to go.

Morten Elm is writing about swim with sharks in the Shark Diving Guide. Here you can also read more about Hawaii swim with sharkss.
