Beach Walk 602R – Magic in the Mundane

by Tim on October 20, 2009

Most all religions and also a big chunk of the new age movement imply or implore that we follow a strict regimen of behaviors in order to be happy, to have grace shine upon us, to get those parking spaces, and to live happily ever after. I don’t buy it. I think happiness can be found by finding pleasure in the small things, the little mundane aspects of life that themselves are gems of pleasure. By focusing too much on the big things, or holding out happiness until [fill in the blank here …

Beach Walk #13 – Jin Shin Jyutsu

Raves to Gina, our masseuse, who treats us to lomi lomi and amazing energy work twice a month. I am at a loss for words to describe what she does, other than to say she keeps my stress and paddling kinks from getting the best of me. She’s been doing some jin shin jyutsu, one technique of which I had actually self-administered many decades ago without knowing! I just love when these life experiences come ’round full circle. To relieve your woes, just hold the representative finger, and focus …

Beach Walk #240 – False Advertising!

by Tim on July 18, 2009

Hawaii is so beautiful and diverse. Why do companies like Starwood stretch the truth beyond this amazing reality? I saw a picture in a magazine promoting a hotel group, using our local beach as the setting. One problem: there are NO hotels in our community. Join me as I talk about false advertising that is unnecessary especially with great hotel locations like Starwood’s.

Beach Walk #530 – Happy Relationships

I’ve been practicing one little switch in my brain – it is so easy to point out what is wrong, and so much more effective to point out what is right, what makes me happy, what I want more of. I think we grow up with the mistaken notion that other people are here to make us happy – but in reality, that is an individual job. The easiest way to get to that happiness, is ti understand what makes us happy and then to be willing to speak up and ask for it! Here’s my personal blog where I am …

Beach Walk #524 – Flooding in Hawaii

by Tim on June 24, 2009

Rain, rain, for a couple of days now, and it is still going strong as I type this. (As is the thunder and lightning. Winter, in one fell swoop!) I love the sound of it, we can use the water yet the sewer line overflowed so the beach is closed for swimming. We’ve got pics of how they move the sand around to try to prevent more flooding, and also how the beach is disappearing. Is it global warming? The water is definitely higher at Kailua Beach Park; I measure it by the boat ramp which …

Beach Walk #509 – Generosity and the Mint Lady

I am delighted to share with you, Theresa, the mint lady. She is an example of simple generosity, and I offer up her story not to be pressure you into anything, but simply to remind myself of this type of sweet, detached kindness. I met her at the Podcast and New Media Expo at the Ontario Convention Center. Bonus: Download today’s episode as an audio podcast. This is something we have been thinking about for some time, and a post by Brad Gibson prompted us to get moving on this. Hawaiian …

Beach Walk #143 – Grownups for Peace

by Tim on June 15, 2009

I am one of those people can see both sides of an issue relatively easy. That sometimes makes it difficult to know what my true preference is. Nonetheless many people become very attached to their point of view, and now the internet gives us each a place to shout out all those things we’ve kept bottled up inside. It is indeed very liberating. Unless you are the recipient of someone else’s unleashed outrage. It takes a grownup to not take those things personally (in the emotional sense) yet …
