Honeymoon Havens

by Ava Mason on January 27, 2010

Getting married? Weddings can be hard work and that’s before you’ve even started planning the honeymoon. Whatever time of year you’re tying the knot here’s our global guide to chasing the honeymoon sun month by month.

January – The sun is high in the sky in the land of Oz. Australia’s summer is at its peak in January. The Caribbean is also the perfect long haul getaway with guaranteed sunshine and perfect beaches. Florida too has a good sunshine record around this time and plenty of entertainment! Closer to home the Canary Islands are a good bet with warm, dry days and cooler nights.

February – For honeymoon explorers try a Nile cruise with warm sunny days to explore the fascinating sights of Egypt. Thailand is also a popular choice at this time of year with warm temperatures and guaranteed sunshine.

March – The beginning of Spring and a Sicily is a mass of blossom, and early Spring sunshine – a true Italian romance. March is a good bet for a honeymoon safari with Kenya having its dry season from December to April.

April – Madeira, and Marrakech – all under five hours flying time, are fresh and warm in April. Turkey too has warmer than average Mediterranean temperatures. The Caribbean is still warm and dry but at the end of its official high season with lower prices up for grabs.

May – Long haul best bets include Malaysia, with a comfortable climate and fascinating culture. In America, the east coast including San Francisco and California should be ideal – neither too hot, not too cold, and prices are ’shoulder season’.

June – Bali has its peak season in June so they’ll be plenty of sun, stunning beaches and fascinating culture to enjoy. Australia’s tropical north, including the islands of the Great Barrier Reef, is now dry and warm. Chase the midnight sun and midsummer parties in Scandanavia.

July – Phew! It’s hot, hot, hot in the Mediterranean resorts – perfect for newlywed sun lovers. Canada is warm and dry and its stunning scenery can’t be beaten.

August – Not the ideal time for travel in Europe as it is peak season, and prices are at their highest but if you want sun its here in abundance. The most romantic city in the world – Paris, is blissfully quiet during the annual holidays. Elsewhere, the Seychelles are at their driest.

September – Long haul best bets include Mauritius. The Mediterranean resorts and cities have also cooled down and are quieter for sightseeing.

October – Enjoy the fall in North America’s New England – plenty of sunshine brings out the glorious autumnal landscape. The Far East cities of Hong Kong and Singapore are at their best too with reduced humidity.

November – Mexico has the odd rain but still basks in warm temperatures. Thailand is cooler and quieter with less humid heat.

December – Sunny Dubai is at its best – perfect for shopping and plenty of chance to soak up the winter sun. The Maldives has to be a bankable honeymoon destination – simply stunning at this time of year. The North African resorts of Tunisia and Morocco make unique sun-based destinations for a Christmas honeymoon.
