How To Stick To Your Fitness Regime

by Jess O\'Neal on March 8, 2010

If your new year started with pledging an allegiance to a new fitness regime then it’s likely that by now your enthusiasm and resolve is waning a little bit .But you aren’t the only one, trust me we’ve all been seduced by the lure of the sofa and a glass of wine when we should really be at the gym.

Now we know that we all do it, how do we try and stop ourselves from giving up on our regime at the first hurdle.

Tip number one, is to do with the type of exercise you choose. It may seem obvious but always make sure you choose something you like. I’ve heard of people spending years doing a particular sport that they don’t really like but have fallen into whatever reason, and unless they are very strong willed, they are setting them up to fail. When you get people like this to try something new that they might like, or something that they know they like they usually find their willingness to exercise increases- and more importantly stays high.

One almost foolproof strategy is to work out with a friend, which alot of people do, but the trick is to choose the right type of friend. In successful fit friendships when one person is feeling lethargic and uninspired the other will encourage them to attend that class or go for that run and vice versa, or in others there is fierce competitiveness which makes people try harder and push themselves further. These are both positive relationships to have as they encourage you to be better and more dedicated, but if you choose the wrong type of work out buddy, such as a fellow sloth, then they can have a negative effect on your workouts and regime as a whole.

My final piece of advice is to remain positive! We’re all human and all susceptible to giving up r having a week off, but as long as you can overcome this and get back on track then all is not lost. Try and change the way you view slip ups, so rather than saying ” I had a week off, there’s no point continuing”, challenge yourself to do double next week or add some time onto the sessions you do. Another area where you should change your thinking is when it comes to excuses. If you’re aware of the stock excuses you use then you can combat them. So, for example, if you often miss an exercise class because you feel weak after skipping lunch at work, then keep a banana or cereal bar in your kit bag for an energy hit.

I hope these tips and hints help, and here’s to a fit, fun 2010.

Tips On How To Get The Most Out Of Your Gym Program

by Luke Mason on August 25, 2009

Many health enthusiasts are joining a gym as a direct outcome of the trend to stay fit, toned and healthy throughout the globe. However, if you have already managed to get rid off the extra kilos, you should concentrate your efforts on muscle growth to get into an athletic shape.

If bodybuilding is what you are targeting at, you must obtain a good gym membership. You will not only find motivation but also every type of guidance from gym instructors. Moreover the professional exercise machines available at a gym are not feasible to purchase and install at your home. After you have enrolled in a gym, you ought to follow a suitable exercise regime so that you can reap good benefits out of your efforts.

You should first begin by formulating an exercise timetable for yourself. A gym trainer can help you fix a target and also help you with the regime that you need to stick to for achieving your target. Your workouts must be based on a weekly routine, and must take into account everything from the kind of exercises you will perform and their repetitions, and also the amount of weight you will lift for your exercises.

Each day, before you start exercising you need to bring yourself to the right state of mind. You should not be relaxed and lethargic, as that will not only be unproductive but could also be risky. Total alertness and a positive spirit of competition are required in order to follow your regime without breaking it.

Keep record of your progress after you have initiated yourself into a gym schedule. This will help you to progress in a systematic way and make you feel that you are holding the reins of your programme. Besides, when you have your progress recorded on paper, your motivation levels will increase and so will your desire to reach your target.

If you have joined a good gym with expert employees, they must be able to guide you about the technique that you need to follow for a particular exercise in your gym plan. But in case you are under the guidance of an inexperienced instructor, you must check that the techniques he is teaching you are not unscientific or unsafe by visiting bodybuilding websites or taking assistance from a good book on this subject.

Lastly, a crucial aspect of any gym program is the diet. The in-house dieticians in your gym can guide you about your daily intake of the right type of food and ensure that you take a carbohydrate and protein-rich food to make up for the nutrient loss during your exercises.
