Getting around Christchurch can mostly be done on foot or bike. Christchuch mostly has buses though there is a tram that runs through the city centre. One of the things to do in Christchurch is to hire bikes in Port Hills and at Mclean’s Island for mountain biking, and many hostels will hire or lend you bikes.
There’s a lot to do for free in Christchurch. Hagley Park is located right in the city and there are a lot more parks to stroll around. Christchurch has a lot of beautiful old buildings. The square outside the cathedral is the heart of Christchurch, and buzzes with stalls, food vendors, the Wizard and buskers.
There’s a lot of things to do in Christchurch with its year-round activities. In summer, there are a lot of free events in Hagley Park. January is the International Buskers’ Festival, festival of flowers and Lantern Festival in February and Ellerslie Flower show in March. There are farmers’ markets in summer. In winter, the biggest celebrations are the Arts Festival and Carnival Week. Lyttleton hosts a Festival of Lights in midwinter.
