How To Spend A Weekend In London

by Tom Doerr on March 5, 2010

There is enough to do in London for an entire lifetime and any tourist is in for a cultural banquet. Although regarded as one of the priciest places in the world, there are plenty of activities on offer for free. Some of Britain’s most popular art galleries are in London and the majority are free; these galleries offer a diverse range of art from priceless classics to contemporary installations. If you’re concerned about fitting everything into one weekend, don’t worry as most public art galleries have late opening hours.

There are so many sights to see while exploring London such as the tradition of the changing of the guard at 11.30am every day. The vast Royal parks provide a green oasis in the bustle of London with Regent’s Park and St James’ Park being amongst the most popular.

No visit to London would be complete without seeing Trafalgar Square, a popular tourist attraction which is also the main focus for many political demonstrations. Each Christmas, Norway donates a huge tree to thank Britain for liberation from the Nazis.

The city is well known for street markets spotted around with plenty on offer, some of the most popular are Camden Market, Portobello Market and Greenwich Market. Each afternoon in Covent Garden Market, licensed street performers entertain the crowds with a variety of acts.

Westminster abbey is one of the most spectacular holy attractions London has to offer; it is free to worshipers but relies on admission fees from visitors to cover running costs. Each day at 5pm the Abbey choir sing the evensong which is a huge attraction.

Some of the finest restaurants in the world are on offer in London and these include French double Michelin star winning ‘L’Atelier de Jol Robucho’ or the more reasonably priced ‘Rhodes Twenty Four’, the flagship contemporary British restaurant of famous chef Gary Rhodes located on the 24th floor of tower 42.

If you are looking for a weekend break in London, then why not stay at Astor Court Hotel for a great value Central London hotel.

A stone throw away from Arlington Texas is Dallas Texas and it’s another fun southern city. It has a lot of things to do to keep you entertained and the good news is there free stuff too.

A Nation Remembers JFK

Dallas pays homage to one of its darkest times, when President John F. Kennedy was assassinated during his 1963 visit. Designed by Kennedy family friend, Philip Johnson, the John F. Nearby, the infamous School Book Depository and Grassy Knoll have changed little since that devastating day in our Nation’s history.
Downtown, Main and Houston Streets

Sports Connection

With teams in every major sports league, Dallas loves its hometown sports, and many Dallas Cowboys football, Texas Rangers baseball, Dallas Mavericks basketball, Dallas Stars hockey and Dallas Burn soccer games are televised. Travel Attractions St Petersburg Florida

by John DeLellis on November 23, 2009

St Petersburg Beach is just minutes away from downtown St Petersburg, and the area is renowned for spectacular rivers, nature preserves, state forests, world-class fishing and championship golf. St Petersburg Beach ranks as one of the best beaches in Florida, especially on the West Coast of Florida. St Petersburg Beach, on the central gulf coast of Florida, has a small town atmosphere with plenty of vacation amenities within walking distance. St Petersburg Beach vacation rentals are just a few miles from St Petersburg, FL, and about 35 miles from Tampa, FL.

Pass-a-Grille Beach, the Southernmost of Pinellas County’s barrierbeaches, was the first beach community on the Gulf of Mexico to develop as a weekend residential spot for successful Tampa and St. Pete Beach, Pass-a-Grille Beach has long been considered the jewel in the crown of west coast beaches. Situated on the southern tip of Pinellas County, Pass-a-Grille is home to the famous “Hurricane” restaurant which overlooks the sparkling waters of the Gulf of Mexico. A little history: According to legend, it is thought that Pass-a-Grille derives its name from the French Passe aux Grilleurs, which means “the passageway of the grillers” in honor of the fisherman who used to grill their catch of the day on the shore when the island was still a post for pirates.

The Salvador Dali museum is one of several local attractions including the Saint Petersburg Museum of History and the Bayfront Center Arena. The Salvador Dali Museum is the flagship of cultural tourism on the West Coast of Florida, welcoming over 200,000 visitors each year from around the world. Salvador Dali Museum is the World’s largest collection of works by the renowned Spanish surrealist. Petersburg’s Salvador Dali Museum is the permanent home of the world’s most comprehensive collection of the renowned Spanish artist’s work.

San Diego

by Tim on November 23, 2009

Read hotel reviews on Ooaha.com

CaliforniaTravelExpert.com host Veronica Hill explores San Diego California, home to more activities per square mile than perhaps any other place in the world. This laid-back surfer town is packed with hotels, restaurants and attractions, making it a great choice for any budget. And with an average summer temperature of about 70 degrees, you don’t need to do any heavy packing. San Diego is extremely casual, so flip flops and sundresses are standard attire around most of the city. Be sure to plan at least 3 days to explore — but a week is even better. Most San Diego hotels offer great discount packages. Some even include free tickets to the city’s top attractions, so don’t be shy about asking. If you only have one day in San Diego City, be sure to visit the San Diego Zoo in Balboa Park. It’s home to one of the finest collections of animals in the world, and it’s a great place to brush up on your wildlife photography. At San Diego Wild Animal Park, you can explore the African Savannah by Jeep, go camping on an overnight safari, or rush down Flightline, the longest zip line in the continental United States. There are so many things to do in San Diego, but one of the most popular is Sea World San Diego, a marine animal theme park that’s home to fast-moving water rides, entertaining dolphin shows, and that famous killer whale, Shamu. Don’t miss a chance to take part in their Dolphin Interaction, where you can put on a wetsuit and swim with dolphins just like the pros. It’s truly unforgettable. Small children will love Legoland California, a Danish theme park filled with animated characters, rides and miniature cities made of Lego bricks. The Apple Fries are loaded with calories, but worth every bite. San Diego is a huge metropolitan city, the second largest in California and 9th largest in the U.S. Downtown San Diego is home to the San Diego Padres, who play in Petco Park, and the San Diego Chargers at Qualcomm Stadium. The San Diego Trolley is the city’s rapid transit system, running three separate lines from the Mexican border north to El Cajon. On weekends, up to two children ride free with a paying adult. One of the most popular San Diego tours is offered by the San Diego Old Town Trolley. Your tickets include all day hop-on, hop-off access to the city’s top sights, including the USS Midway, Little Italy, the Gaslamp Quarter, Whaley House and Seaport Village, where you’ll find great San Diego shopping and some of the best San Diego restaurants. You can also go on a San Diego tour with a GPS-enabled Go Car, available through some San Diego rental car agencies, or board a hydra-terra vehicle for a land-to-sea experience on the San Diego Seal Tours. Marine buffs will appreciate the Maritime Museum of San Diego, home to one of the finest collections of historic ships in the world. Book an adventure at sea on a tall ship, or take part in a real cannon battle. Each September, the museum hosts the annual San Diego Tall Ships Festival, drawing salty sea dogs from around the world. For a glimpse at where it all started, be sure to visit Mission San Diego, founded in 1769 by Father Junipero Serra. It was the first of 21 Missions in California, and is considered to be the birthplace of Christianity in the Far West. When planning a San Diego vacation, it’s easy to become overwhelmed by the lodging choices. A few San Diego resorts include the golf course and spa resort of La Costa in Carlsbad, the family-friendly Paradise Point in Mission Bay, the business-savvy San Diego Marriott Hotel & Marina and the pet-friendly Loews Coronado Bay Resort. But my all-time favorite is the historic Hotel Del Coronado, one of the grandest oceanfront resorts in the West. Opened in 1888, the hotel offers tours by reservation, or you can explore on your own. While you’re in Coronado, you’ll find plenty to do, from sunbathing on Coronado Beach to kite surfing at the Silver Strand. Rent a bike from Holland’s Bicycles and cruise the Bayshore Bikeway, take in the sights and shops of Orange Avenue, or spend a romantic sunset at sea on a Venetian gondola. In June, you can catch the annual Loews Coronado Bay Resort Surf Dog Competition, one of the best San Diego events, where you’re guaranteed to have a dog-gone good time. It’s impossible to mention all of the great things to do in San Diego, but then again, maybe we shouldn’t. It’s always fun to discover new and exciting things every time you travel. Capitol Of Havana A Most See Palace

by Regino Rodriguez on October 26, 2009

Most likely the most significant and stunning building in Havana City is the Capitol building. A visit to this amazing estate of the art palace is something you should not miss while visiting Havana.

In the area that today is occupied by The Capitol building, there was a swamp before, cleaned and transformed into what was known as the first and only Botanical Garden in Cuba in the Nineteenth Century.

The start of the project of building the Capitol was delayed in many occasions mainly due to the political instability; but in 1926 the construction of what was going to be the Chamber of Representatives of Cuba Finally began.

The grand structure was unveiled on Thursday May 20 just after mid day with the attendance of the president of the Republic of Cuba and the rest of the government cabinet ruling the island at that time.

The group that took part in the planning of the construction of the Capitol was also joined together by engineers and Cuban architects under the capable hands of Eugenio Raynieri Piedra of a renowned architected famous for his artistic designs. The total cost of the project reached the 17 million dollars.

To any walker, the dome of the Capitol of Havana can with no trouble attract his/her interest, fifth in the world of Renaissance style that, for its dimensions and outline, it copies that of Washington, San Pedro’s Basilica, in Rome and San Pauls Cathedral in London. The Cupola is the second higher building peak of the metropolis, following the tower of the Monument to Mart in the Revolution Square.

Another detail that attracts is the central piazza, supported by 17 ionic columns of granite. In it, the three big brass doors that give access to the main floor and the bas-reliefs stand out due to its beauty.

The Capitol of Havana counts over seven decades since its opening in 1926. The colossal construction is regarded as the third in relevance in Latin America for its monolithic structure and certainly first in Cuba.

From the Capitol of Havana -that is not national -, the kilometer 0 of all the highways of the country begins. It was designed so that in it the two chambers of the legislative body of the Republic worked all the sessions until 1959.

The statue of the Republic of Cuba, inspired in the Havanan model Lily Vlty, has the third place in the world of the highest sculptures indoors. It was installed in 1929, in the room of the Lost Steps (Saln de los Pasos Perdidos). It was made by Angelo Zanelli who also used this model to sculpt the statues of the central piazza.

Stopping over at the Capitol of Havana is just a remarkable journey back in history. In its quarters you will discover lots of true stories and anecdotes, concealed behind its pillars. Your holiday will not be fulfilled without a touch of History in Havana and this building certainly is a must.

Florida Vacation Attractions

by John DeLellis on October 22, 2009

Perhaps the most obvious Florida vacations are trips to the many theme parks that the city of Orlando has to offer. Florida vacations are fairly common among Americans from all states, partly because of the irresistible attractions in the area and partly because it is one of the cheapest destinations from within the United States. Florida vacations are full of fun, from the many great beaches, water sports and attractions to the diverse dining and shopping opportunities, Florida has it all. To most people, Florida vacations are synonymous with sun, sea, sand and Mickey Mouse, the ultimate family vacation destination.

With the wide array of amazing vacation packages that we have to offer, you are surely going to have the time of your lives as you enjoy your great weekend trip to Orlando, Florida. With a rich history, charming character and diverse landscape not found anywhere else, it is no wonder that over 60 million visitors flock to these fun Florida vacation spots each year. The unmatched camping facilities benefit from the great Florida weather and guests quickly learn that camping creates many experiences unmatched by traditional Florida vacations. Vacation homes near Disney are popular, and the top Disney vacation rental season happens during school breaks, holidays including Christmastime, spring break and summer vacation.

If you are planning to spend a vacation or holiday in Orlando or at Disney World, then one of the first things you need to do is to figure out what kind of accommodations are best for you. Disney World is of course a good choice for the younger crowd as the park features a fun atmosphere featuring the many Disney characters. Choose summer for the warmest days at water parks; winter holidays including Christmas and New Year’s Eve feature special events at Disney parks; and fall and spring are great times to find vacation values and smaller crowds at Orlando’s popular attractions. Orlando, Florida, vacations are practically synonymous with Disney vacations, and first-time Orlando visitors and veterans alike will agree – the attractions at the Disney World Resort in Orlando, Florida are a must-see.

The Don Cesar has a long list of famous guests and has hosted every president since Gerald Ford (excluding Ronald Reagan) and also Franklin D. St Pete Beach is also known for hotels and resorts like the Tradewinds Hotel/Resort. The Tadewinds Hotel/Resort is a tropical haven where guests can find peace and relaxation in style and comfort with superior service reflecting the spirit of American Samoa. Don Cesar Is the hotel resort known as Florida’s Legendary Pink Palace since 1928, the luxury resort is revered internationally for its sprawling, sugar-white beach, unparalleled dining, rejuvenating Beach Club & Spa, fabulous fishing, children’s program, nearby tennis and golf.

Most swim with manatees Florida vacations are narrated and guided tours, where people are not only shown the manatees in their natural habitat, but they are also made aware of the normal mode of existence of these gentle creatures of the deep, and made conscious of the need of their conservation. But rest assured, no matter where you land or what type of rental you choose, Florida vacations are bound to afford you with stress-free relaxation at the very least. Orlando Florida vacations are just what you need if you want to spend an incredible time with your family this holiday. Though most Florida vacations are planned around popular theme parks, Orlando, Florida offers a wealth of shopping opportunities for vacationers looking for a break from tourist attractions.
