Southland Tales: An impressive cast is trashed in an over long, overwrought wallow set in 2008 Southern California three years after a catastrophic atomic assault has turned America into a patrol state. Concentrates on a few individuals trying to subsist in this post apocalyptic atmosphere, including a B action film performer, a porn megastar turned Television commentator, and an L.A. patrol officer with a split personality. Strange Bedfellows: Hudson ambles through another domestic mix-up comedy, this one with spicy Gina and lots of dry humor. This movie is light amusement that was filmed in London. Cast includes Rock Hudson, Gina LolIobrigida, Gig Young, Terry Thomas, and Nancy Kulp. (98 minutes, 1965)

The Red Badge of Courage: Yankee cadet Murphy escapes under fire and is guilt afflicted over his obvious absence of guts. Stephen Crane’s Civil War novel acquires a personal touch from director Huston. High quality battle scenes and some genuinely terrifying cavalry charges highlight this research of the fine line between cowardice and courage. Cast includes Audie Murphy, Bill Mauldin, Douglas Dick, Royal Dano, John Dierkes, Arthur Hunnicutt, Tim Durant, and Andy Devine. (69 minutes, 1951)

Protocol: In Protocol Goldie Hawn becomes an inadvertent heroine (and an overnight star) who’s satisfied with her do nothing government job. She eventually is used as a pawn for handling a Middle Eastern potentate. Cast includes Goldie Hawn, Chris Sarandon, Richard Romanus, Andre Gregory, Gail Strickland, Cliff De Youthful, Keith Szarabajka, Ed Begley, Jr., and James Staley. (96 minutes, 1984)

Slaughter’s Big Rip-off: A murderer is still playing games with the Mob in this dull action film. McMahon gives more effort to his role as the mob boss than it merits. Cast includes Jim Brown, Ed McMahon, Brock Peters, Don Stroud, Gloria Hendry, Dick Anthony Williams, and Art Metrano. (93 minutes, 1973)

Gator Bait: All the men folk are after seductive swamp girl (Playboy Playmate of the Year Jennings) although she has a surprise or two in store for them. Cast includes Claudia Jennings, Sam Gilman, Doug Dirkson, Clyde Ventura, and Bill Thurman. (93 minutes, 1976)

My Son John: Archetypal apple-pie parents (Hayes, Jagger) suspect their child (Stroller) of being a communist in this reactionary period piece. Dramatically overwrought, however this film is fascinating as a social history. Stroller (who’s brilliant) died before film was completed. Cast includes Helen Hayes, Robert Stroller, Dean Jagger, Van Heflin, Frank McHugh, and Richard Jaeckel. (122 minutes, 1952)

Air America: Guides Mel and Bob are part of the C.IA.?s smuggling operation in Laos throughout the Vietnam War. They crate anything and anyone anyplace. Supposed action comedy has few giggles and makes little sense. Cast includes Mel Gibson, Robert Downey, Jr., Nancy Travis, David Marshall Grant, Aisle Smith, Ken Jenkins, and Art La Fleur. (112 minutes, 1990)
